Another type of art I love is the classic pulps of the 30's - 50's. I like the ones that show danger or battle scenes. And really, the greatest distance from reality the illustration is, the better. My world outlook was pretty much altered when I started reading Mad in the 70's. And I fell in love with Norman Rockwell's work very early in my life. Even before art school, I had a nice library of Rockwell art books. Not sure the other kids were jealous but, they should have been. This started out as a practice piece about Martian space ships attacking this ship but, I thought it would be a cool illustration of a 'freshly' sunken destroyer. I'm not sure I've ever seen an illustration like this before. That's oil floating on the surface, I might go back and make it darker or something. It's not really working for me.

Another Painter piece. It's an illustration of the B-24 'Taggy Anne' on the raid on the Ploiesti Romania oil fields in 1943. The raid was a mess from the start and it went down hill from there. This is a portfolio filler created in Painter and Photoshop. I wanted to play around with water and reflections. The pebbles were created in Painter by making a new brush for the Image Hole which with randomly distribute shapes made in painter. I made a bunch of gray, brown and black 'pebbles' and went to town.

Well, here he is. Not real happy with the face but, I have to move on. Perhaps it's the eyes. I think I need to take out the shine and let the color show though. The colors are nice and the textures worked. People are finding it more creepy then thoughtful. That sorta' surprised me.
